The Famous Chef Thomas wanted a good latte. That is all. A simple request, made in good faith, at an establishment whose entire purpose is to fulfill such requests. What followed, however, was not a transaction — it was an ordeal.

The Famous Chef Thomas entered the location, approached the counter, and stood. And waited. And continued to wait. The woman at the counter appeared entirely untroubled by the presence of a paying customer. She busied herself with what The Famous Chef Thomas can only describe as frivolous things — tasks of no apparent urgency or relevance to the art of serving coffee. The Famous Chef Thomas wondered, with growing disbelief, how long he would have to stand there before this lady decided it was a good idea to wait on the customer rather than doing anything else.
Several minutes passed. The Famous Chef Thomas stood his ground — patient, composed, and increasingly astonished.

The Exchange
Finally, after what felt like an unreasonable amount of time for a man who simply wanted a latte, the lady approached and asked — with an attitude that can only be described as nasty — “Are you ready?”
The Famous Chef Thomas, who had been ready from the moment he walked through the door, replied with the dignity the situation required: “I have been ready. I am waiting on you.”
What followed was not an apology. It was not a correction. The lady replied with a nasty comment and walked away, leaving The Famous Chef Thomas standing at the counter like a man abandoned at the altar of customer service. She simply turned and left.
The Famous Chef Thomas, undeterred, sought assistance from another worker who, to their credit, completed the transaction with basic competence. But the damage was done.
The Ruling
The Famous Chef Thomas cannot recommend this location. Not because of the coffee — though he never did get to enjoy it properly — but because of the service. A customer should never be made to feel like an inconvenience in an establishment that exists to serve them. The Famous Chef Thomas does not ask for much: a warm greeting, a timely order, and basic respect. Until this type of behavior is taken care of appropriately, this Dunkin’ in Accokeek will not carry The Famous Chef Thomas’s endorsement.
